Mercurysquad odpalili WiFi Intel 3945. Nadchodzi wielkimi krokami rozwiązanie dla posiadaczy sieciówek ze stajni Intela. Nic tylko zacierać łapki i czekać na oficjalne wsparcie.
Cytat:
I have much less time to spare this year than last, so I must prioritize. In the coming few days, I’ll work on fixing bugs in the 3945 driver (slow speed, heating issues, connection failures). There will be no work on WEP or WPA. The API for writing ciphers was released some months ago as part of VoodooWireless, so if anyone wants to start writing WEP, TKIP or CCMP ciphers meanwhile, it’ll be much appreciated. I’m always available via e-mail if any help is needed. The FreeBSD net80211 architecture already implements these software ciphers. I have mostly based the cipher API on net80211, so it should be a simple port with minor changes. I will only start with WEP/WPA once the majority of bugs in 3945 HAL are fixed so that most people can use unsecured connections stably.
Cytat:
Yes, there will be drivers for all of those. I will begin writing a unified 4965/5xxx driver in the next few days. How long it takes to get it usable remains to be seen. I expect around a month at least.

Since people are eager to test anything that’s available, I’m uploading a pre-alpha version for the Intel 3945 driver. Click this post’s title to download.
You need to install all three kexts for it to work. Rebooting is generally not necessary.
* Leopard only (no Snow Leopard yet)
* Open networks only (no WEP, no WPA, no shared authentication)
* .11b/g networks only (no .11a)
* Transmit rate is fixed at 11Mbps
* Transmit power is not temperature calibrated
Note that I got this working only a few hours ago, and I am not the one who tested it - so there is absolutely no support. I cannot help if it doesn’t work for you. I need more time to test it better before I claim it as beta-level.
Chyba jednak nie tak długo. Więcej nowości na stronie autora:
Na facebooku napisał już o piątej becie dla karty 3945 tylko na Snow Leoparda a więc można powiedzieć że prace w końcu ruszyły z kopyta
Kod:
ONLY for Snow Leopard 10.6.2. This fixes some bugs and implements full-range adaptive speed control based on connection stability and signal strength. 11g connections still don't work.
started porting OpenBSD net80211 to Mac OS X. Remaining 1090 errors to fix (down from 8600+). Expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Does this mean WEP/WPA support?
mercurysquad napisał/a:
It means support for EVERYTHING.

mercurysquad napisał/a:
net80211 port: More than 94% of the compiler errors are fixed, down from 8600 to 489 at present. Last 5-6% will need a lot of work.
mercurysquad napisał/a:
Keep in mind this is a (work-in-progress) port of the wireless stack only: not the drivers themselves. The drivers will come later when the stack is ported.

How far off is a working 4965 driver?
mercurysquad napisał/a:
3 weeks away

mercurysquad napisał/a:
Well there are two things that won't be supported yet: draft-n, and WPA2-Enterprise (-PSK will work). These features are currently work-in-progress in OpenBSD. I am trying to keep the changes minimal, so updates from upstream can be integrated smoothly.
As far as drivers are concerned, every Intel (and non-Intel) card will work, but it will take a bit of effort to port them. All BSD drivers won't start working automatically, but once ported they will work as closely as they do on the BSDs.
FYI: Apple's own atheros airport drivers use this same model (porting freebsd's net80211 and atheros driver).
mercurysquad napisał/a:
No, -PSK is supported, but -Enterprise handshake isn't supported in the kernel itself. However, CCMP (the cipher) is supported, and Apple's 80211 has an RSN supplicant, so perhaps I can whip something up using the combination to make WPA-enterprise also work. But that's far in the future for now.
Przy okazji, odpowiedź na pytanie o support Leoparda jest twierdząca
Edit4: Najnowsze info
mercurysquad napisał/a:
net80211 port: 97% of errors fixed; 266 remaining.
Phil Tesone napisał/a:
what exactly does the net80211 port do?
mercurysquad napisał/a:
@Phil: It's code from BSD which handles all aspects of wireless networking. It will also allow BSD wireless drivers to be rapidly ported to OS X, in addition to giving us a tried and tested wireless stack packed with features and performance. All that I'll need to concentrate on, then, is the glue code to connect the net80211 stack to OS X and Airport.
Edit5: Mercurysquad nadal czeka na dostarczenie zafundowanej karty..

net80211 port: Under 100 errors now. Much work still remains but progress is good.
the first working betas might not be out until 2 weeks later. though the # of errors is getting smaller and smaller, it doesn't mean that all we need to do is get it to compile. I still have to write code to hook net80211 to OS X. After that the actual drivers need to be ported (but thankfully each driver is only maybe 5-10% of the size of net80211, so that should not take long).

.11g mode (54mbps) connection bug was fixed in the existing driver, routers no longer have to be set to 11mbps b-only mode. New version will be uploaded shortly.
